I am married and the mother of two young children, a daughter born in 2005 and a son born in 2008.
In 1997 I graduated from UMIST (now re-merged with the University of Manchester) with a 2.i BSc (Hons) Computation degree. In March 2000 I started my business developing websites. (Between the two I worked as a Web Developer, and Website Development Manager.)
I am one of those computer programmers who started early. When I was a kid we had a BBC Micro computer and I enjoyed playing games (Chucky Egg was my favourite) on that and doing a little BBC Basic programming. When we got a PC I continued this theme (Monkey Island was one of my favourite games, and Sim City was the first game I remember us getting).
As a hobby I design greeting cards and sell them on my online shop at
http://www.flamingimp.com
When I'm not looking after my children I'm mostly working! However, I like reading Terry Pratchett books and science fiction, my favourites being Isaac Asimov and Alastair Reynolds. Programmes I like on TV include Fringe, House, Bones and Dollhouse.
I loved getting involved in activities as a kid: playing football, canoing, rowing, synchronised swimming (I have my grade 3 and can still lie on my back on the water with a leg in the air! I was part of a display opening a swimming pool once!). Then when I started University, in 1994, I immediately discovered the internet in its infancy and created my first personal website. I was really excited by the possibilities and plowed all my spare time into it, creating online games and messageboards and making friends in the process. What I loved was that something I created could be seen and used by people all over the world, and back then not many people or companies had web presences so you got a good audience if your website was interactive, and it was altogether more personal. I formed the Computer Users Society (CUS) and ran a web server which members got a free account on to do as they wanted. I still get excited by my work, and I bring that enthusiasm and energy to your project, I may even be able to help develop your ideas further and give you more options.
So, why not get in touch right now?, or dip your foot in the water and get to know me on twitter! Or if you want boring, here's my
employment history.
